Formula E to Race in Zandvoort from 2027: A Focus on Innovation, Energy Transition and Elite Sport
SportVibes, TIG Sports & Events and Circuit Zandvoort once again join forces for an event that brings together motorsport, technology and societal progress.
Formula E is coming to MASCOT Circuit Zandvoort on 18 and 19 June 2027. With the publication of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship calendar, it has officially been confirmed that the Netherlands will become part of the world championship for electric race cars. The inaugural Zandvoort E-Prix will take place during a spectacular double-header race weekend and will also mark the Dutch debut of Formula E’s all-new GEN4 era.

Circuit Zandvoort has earned its global reputation thanks to its unique location in the dunes, natural elevation changes and iconic banked corners. The characterful and challenging circuit provides the ideal stage for the introduction of the next generation of Formula E cars. Delivering 600 kW of power and featuring active all-wheel drive, the GEN4 cars represent the biggest technological leap in the championship’s history.
The Zandvoort E-Prix will be organised by SportVibes, TIG Sports & Events and Circuit Zandvoort. The same parties have successfully organised the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix in recent years.

Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E:
“We are delighted to bring the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship to the Netherlands for the first time with a double-header race weekend in Zandvoort. This historic circuit is the perfect venue for our Dutch debut, thanks to its fast-flowing layout and unique banked corners, which will push the capabilities of our new GEN4 cars to the limit. We look forward to working with our partners in Zandvoort to deliver a spectacular event for Dutch fans and partners alike. Managing 600 kW of power and active all-wheel drive on such a demanding circuit will require exceptional skill from the drivers. Expanding into this passionate motorsport market is a significant milestone for us, and we cannot wait to introduce this new era of electric racing to the Netherlands.”
More Than Motorsport
The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is globally recognised as a unique combination of elite sport, technological innovation and the future of mobility. As such, the championship aligns closely with Dutch ambitions in the fields of energy, technology and sustainable development.
Beyond the sporting spectacle, Formula E provides a platform for collaboration between businesses, governments, educational institutions and innovators. Topics such as the energy transition, mobility, technology and innovation will play a central role throughout the event.
Robert van Overdijk, Managing Director of Circuit Zandvoort:
“Formula E offers an opportunity to build a powerful ecosystem around innovation, energy and mobility. It brings together businesses, governments, educational institutions and fans around themes that are shaping the future. It is precisely this combination of elite sport and societal relevance that makes the event so attractive for Circuit Zandvoort. In addition, the new race format with two races and the introduction of the GEN4 cars provide a unique opportunity to introduce a broad audience to the fascinating evolution of motorsport, mobility and technology.”

A New Era
At the same time, Formula E has plenty to offer motorsport fans. With the introduction of the new GEN4 cars, 2027 marks the beginning of a new era in electric racing. The cars will be faster, more powerful and more technologically advanced than ever before, further strengthening Formula E’s position as one of the most progressive racing series in the world.
The race weekend in Zandvoort will feature two championship races and forms part of the largest Formula E calendar ever. The 2027 season will also introduce a dynamic new race format featuring two distinct race types:
- E-Prix (45 minutes): a strategic race where energy management, ATTACK MODE and PIT BOOST play a central role.
- E-Prix Unleashed (30 minutes): a performance-focused race showcasing the pure speed of the GEN4 cars.
The combination of a challenging circuit, the introduction of the new GEN4 cars and an extensive fan programme makes this event an important new chapter in Dutch motorsport.
More information about the Formula E race weekend, activities surrounding the event and opportunities for fans, partners and stakeholders will be announced later this year.
