One Year To Go: ‘2027 Beach Volleyball World Championships will be a showcase for our sport’

Exactly one year from now, the Beach Volleyball World Championships will begin in four Dutch cities: The Hague, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Apeldoorn. The ambition is to make the event even more spectacular, bigger and more impactful than in 2015, when the World Championships in the Netherlands proved to be a tremendous success at iconic locations across four cities.

The World Championships will take place from Friday 13 August through Sunday 22 August. The tournament will feature 48 teams per gender, representing nearly fifty countries. Ticket sales for the finals weekend in The Hague will start on 1 October. Fans who sign up through pre-registration will be the first to gain access to the ticket shop.

The Netherlands will host the Beach Volleyball World Championships for the second time in history. Just like in 2015, the matches will once again take place in the heart of the cities: from the Hofvijver in The Hague and Museumplein in Amsterdam to the Rijnhaven in Rotterdam and Marktplein in Apeldoorn.

A showcase of beach volleyball

Images from the 2015 World Championships are still being shared around the world today. Packed stands, elite-level sport at extraordinary locations and, above all, the floating stadium on the Hofvijver left a lasting impression.

“In 2015, we showed what is possible when elite sport and host cities strengthen one another. Now we want to add a new dimension to that. With the experience we gained then and the knowledge and opportunities we have today, we are once again setting the bar higher,” says Willem Overdiep, Managing Partner of TIG Sports & Events. “Together, we are confident that these World Championships will reach and inspire even more people.”

TIG Sports & Events, the Dutch Volleyball Federation (Nevobo), the four cities and the Province of Gelderland form the Dutch organising partnership for the event, which is being held under the auspices of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).

A World Championship that goes beyond elite sport

With exactly one year to go, preparations are in full swing. Behind the scenes, work is underway on the logistical operation, the sporting preparations of Beach TeamNL and the wider social ambitions of the World Championships.

The tournament is intended to make an impact beyond the ten competition days alone. The organisers want to use the enormous appeal of the event to encourage people to get active, inspire them and bring people together.

“We don’t just want to organise a fantastic two-week event for sports fans. We want to use the power of the World Championships to create a positive impact beyond the event itself,” says Michel Everaert, Director of Sport at Nevobo. “It is wonderful to see how the cities and the Province of Gelderland are taking the lead in this themselves. These World Championships offer a unique opportunity to organise programmes and side events around social themes, such as healthy and active lifestyles, and in doing so reach as many people and target groups as possible.”

Ticket sales

Those who want to experience the 2027 Beach Volleyball World Championships up close will not have to wait much longer. Ticket sales will begin in three phases. From 1 October 2026, the first tickets will go on sale: tickets for the finals weekend in The Hague. In November, ticket sales will open for the opening weekend in all four host cities. From March 2027, regular ticket sales will begin for the remaining sessions.

Fans who pre-register will be the first to gain access to the ticket shop and will have the opportunity to secure tickets for their favourite World Championship moments.

About the Beach Volleyball World Championships

The 2027 Beach Volleyball World Championships, taking place from 13 to 22 August, will feature 48 women’s teams and 48 men’s teams, with at least five participating countries from each continent. A total of 216 matches will be played over ten days. The Beach Volleyball World Championships are held every two years.
