Amsterdam Breaking Championships and 3×3 Basketball Join Forces at the Gashouder
For the very first time, the two new Olympic sports, Breaking and 3×3 Basketball, will join forces during a historic event at the iconic Gashouder in Amsterdam. This unique coming together of sport and culture promises to be a spectacular experience for all fans and participants.
Last year, the Amsterdam Breaking Championships, presented by Odido & Samsung, were held for the first time at the Central Market Hall in Amsterdam. There, competitors battled for the national titles in 1 vs. 1 and the International Crew Battles. Sardjoe, Demierre, and the Hustle Kidz walked away with the victory. A special stadium was built in the Central Markthal in Amsterdam for this championship, with a circle in the middle serving as the battleground for intense Breaking battles.
The Markthal also provided ample space for side events, such as the “Voetjes van de vloer” dance festival, where young and old alike enjoyed a unique combination of sports and culture of the highest order. With this first edition of the Amsterdam Breaking Championships, presented by Odido & Samsung, Amsterdam confirms its reputation as the Urban Sport Capital.
This year, the event joins forces with 3×3 Basketball to create an even bigger and more impressive spectacle. The Gashouder, a famous historic building in the heart of Amsterdam, will be the stage for this groundbreaking event.
About Breaking
Breaking, also known as breakdancing, is a dance style that emerged in the United States in the 1970s. It took shape at bustling block parties in the Bronx, spawned from hip-hop culture, and is characterized by acrobatic moves, clever footwork, and the key role played by the DJ and MC during battles.
In the 1990s, international competitions were first held around the world, making the dance form popular among both hip-hop communities and the general public.
